Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man & MOTU documentary

    UPDATED by JVS3, September 11, 2018:

If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to watch the Power of Grayskull documentary from Definitive Films, now on Netflix.

This one hour and thirty-five minute documentary gives a detailed look at the history of He-Man and She-Ra, from their beginnings all the way to today.

    UPDATED by JVS3, August 8, 2018:

Be sure to check out the new Power of Grayskull documentary teaser posted on Vimeo by Definitive Films!

The documentary is scheduled to hit Netflix this August 24th!

    UPDATED by JVS3, August 2, 2018:

Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the MOTU documentary from Definitive Films will debut on Netflix this August 24th!

An astute reader of fan culture on the Internet, particularly those of us in the MOTU community, might have noticed a few things happening over the past week or so. These events line up pretty nicely, especially if you're one of those who backed Definitive Film's forthcoming feature documentary The Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

You probably remember that this film, from a mash-up of the filmmakers behind Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Nintendo Quest: The Most Unofficial and Unauthorized Nintendo Documentary Ever!, has been in production for quite a while, although they did have an exciting screening of their most recent cut of the film at Power-Con last year...

Well, it finally looks like they're gearing up for a release!

Kickstarter backers have been receiving communications suggesting that tier reward packages will be processing very soon and, even more interesting, sites tracking Netflix's release schedules recently let a cat or two out of the bag.

Below is a paragraph from shortlist.com:

"The Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

    Cast: He-Man, Dolph Lundgren
This Kickstarter-funded documentary featuring the one and only Dolph Lundgren is an in-depth look at one of the 1980s' best-loved relics, a toy line turned cartoon turned movie turned everything. The team behind this made the excellent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle documentary Turtle Power (also on Netflix) and really know their onions.

Coming to Netflix on August 24th.

I reached out to the filmmakers for their comment and received the email version of shrugs because they aren't able to comment on any release plans at this time.

I did confirm however that they have plans in place to ensure that backers will have a chance to watch the documentary before any mass distribution, regardless of what how quickly the packages can be mailed out.

Over the last few years, I've gotten to know these guys fairly well and I'm sure that, whatever they've planned, they're taking the needs of the fan community and their Kickstarter backers very seriously and no matter what happens, we'll see the results of their hard work soon!"

    From grandhelmet, September 29, 2015:

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to reach out and say a dream has finally come true as I'm teaming up with the guys behind "Turtle Power: The Definitive History of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" to bring a similar doc on everything He-Man, similarly titled, "Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe."

Having just finished "Nintendo Quest," and being a long time He-Man fan... well, I've already said it, it's a dream come true. Please feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to answer. We're in the early stages and probably going to use our FB page and our webpage to convey a lot of information but excited to connect with everyone here again.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Check out the trailer to the movie some of the team did on TMNT:

Looks legit, they had interviews with the original creators.

Thanks for the continued support, guys!

We hope to talk with as many "creators" and those that had direct contract with all facets of the brand to bring the definitive story to life. Stay tuned for more details and announcements as they occur!

I appreciate the Nintendo Quest love Besides Nintendo, He-man is my other great passion and I can't wait to make it just as fun as NQ with Randall as my co-directing aka partner in Eternian crime!

I met the director Rob yesterday, and he seems like a powerhouse of determination.

I'm not sure what he is determined to do, but he seems capable of getting things done.

..I don't think he is expecting the Masters of the Universe documentary to happen for a while, like not this year, and he didn't want to talk to much about that.

Nintendo Quest was good, good human character substance with real humans.
I would say needed more power glove, MORE POWER GLOVE.!.

Thanks EKP! Good to meet you too. Just harnessing our plans and thoughts for the MOTU doc at the moment, and like any collaboration gotta sort out everything with the team internally first, but we'll be sharing ideas and thoughts soon! Thanks for your kind comments on Nintendo Quest too! There's a lot of stuff I wouldve loved to include but the good news for you, is that there is a Power Glove doc coming out called, "The Power of Glove."

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who submitted questions for the team about the doc! Consider it episode one of our new, on-going web series called "Chasing Grayskull."

..you know grandhelmet is quite similar to DarkHelmet of SpaceBalls.

Some one needs to talk to people who worked on HanaBarbera/Filmation works of the great past.
If I had the time (and money), I would have gotten on this long ago.

    I see.

Dragons are very important, they allow for things to balance well.
..(I have always described Hordak as a man who wants to be a dragon.)
